Gotham S3Ep15: How the Riddler Got His Name review/recap

Gotham is back, and Ed seems a little lost without his partner in crime. After killing Oswald, and throwing him off the dock, Ed is in search of a new mentor to make him into a villain. But after 6 of Gotham’s most intellectual individuals failed to correctly answer his riddles, Ed killed them. Copping with the he added stress, Ed has started relying heavy on a drug that causes him to hallucinate Oswald, who tries to talk reason with him. But Ed it too far gone, and comes to the conclusion that what makes a true villain, is having a worthy enemy to fight against. Jim Gordon.

Jim is off rekindling with his Uncle, so Harvey and Fox are left to investigate The Riddler’s quest, and follow a clue left for Jim to a chess tournament, where everyone zapped with an electric blast when they try to escape the table. After the controlling the situation, Fox and Harvey are given another clue, in that the clue itself will be within the belly of the beast.

With Harvey off the the ceremony for the next graduating class of cadets, a new body is found with Harvey’s badge stapled inside. Fox attempts to warn Harvey, but while confront Ed at the graduation, Ed drags Harvey away. Fox learns of Ed plan, and confronts him in the stairwell, where Ed has Harvey tied to the railing with an antidote to the poison gas he unleashed on the cadets. But in order to free Harvey and get he antidote, Fox must correctly answer Ed’s 3 riddles. After failing to answer 2, Ed begins to fall apart, and let’s it slip that something happened to Oswald, leading Fox to figure out that Ed killed him, and solve his remaining riddle. But the last rope holding Harvey snaps, and he falls. But while Fox was able to catch Harvey, the distraction allowed Ed to escape.

The GCPD has a citywide man hunt underway to find Ed, but all that can be found is the Riddler’s signature over a portrait of Oswald. Hiding in Fox’s car, he confesses his reason for killing Oswald, and that he has found his true self, the person he was always meant to be, The Riddler. Ed returns to the dock where her killed Oswald and says his final goodbye, and dumps the remains of his pills. 

The Court of Owls have successfully groomed Bruce 2.0 to take the real Bruce Wayne’s place, while the real one is distracted over his breakup with Selina. Fox isn’t the only one being sent on a chase he can’t crack, After recieving a note from Selina, Bruce goes to meet her, only to find her hostile, and unwilling to talk, and learns that the note of forged. In an alley, Bruce encounters his clone, and learns that Bruce 2.0 was the one to sent the note, and is given a powerful knockout drug. With the real Bruce tucked away somewhere, Bruce 2.0 has now ready to take over.

While catching up lost time with his Uncle, Jim learns that his father and Uncle were members of the Court of Owls, and his Uncle still is. Not only that, but they want to recruit Jim. On top of learning his father and Uncle were apart of the Court, Jim also learns that the Court are the ones responsible for killing his father. His Uncle urges Jim to join so together they can bring down the Court from the inside.

Surprise, Oswlad is back! Not that they would have kept him dead, seeing as Oswald/The Penguin is a vital part of the Batman universe. But the person who brought him back, Ivy herself pulled Oswald from the river and healed him. And Oswald is ready to get to business, starting with killing Ed Nigma.
